Wait For Me

This one was a tough one to get through….and NO, I don’t mean in a bad way, I mean in the sense of “covering your eyes” during a scary movie. I didn’t want to know what was coming next. I got so involved with the story, I didn’t want my heart to be crushed any more….Yet….I finished the book and LOVED IT!! What a GREAT story, and the way things became unraveled kept me on my toes the whole time.

From page one you are sucked into Kate’s life and are there every step of the way, as she discovers that her life for the last five years had been a lie, not that she truly knew that, well…..because she was in a coma and had lost her memory. She sets out to get answers, but what she gets is SO much more!!

I LOVED MITCH MATTHEWS….just had to get that out there now. He is one of the secondary characters, Annie’s brother. He is funny, handsome, charismatic and gives us that comical relief that we needed when things got too heated, or emotional. He was also so cute when it came to Simone, The “minivan” thing was too cute!!

Ryan and Kate’s relationship brought out so many different emotions. You are trying to understand where he is coming from, with anger and sadness, and then you want to be on her side, which is filled with confusion and feelings that she doesn’t understand. It was torture! I just wanted them to be together, and become a family again, but life is never that easy and it wasn’t that easy for them either. Ugh….talk about frustrated!

I am NOT giving away anything that might kill the plot for you, or steal away the fun of finding out on your own…SO, I will just say…..This book is SO worth the buy, and I guarantee that you will be like me, putting it down, ranting about it for a few minutes to ANYONE who will listen and then picking it back up!!

Previous to this book, the only books I’ve read by Elisabeth Naughton are from the Eternal Guardian series (which I adore). I can honestly say this book blew me out of the water.

When we first meet Kate Alexander, she’s inside a CAT scan and trying to convince herself not to freak out. From those moments of trying to maintain her sanity and finally being released from inside her plastic tomb, her life spirals out of control. Through the death of her “husband” she finds out that the short 4 day coma she thought she was in from a car accident was more like 18 months. She’s determined to find out what happened to her and why her “husband” kept it a secret from her. She packs up herself and her young son and heads to San Francisco.

While Kate is apprehensive about what she might find, she has this driving need to know why she was lied to and what it could all mean. She never thought she would uncover such a huge web of deception or that it would unleash the tsunami of hurt, anger, resentment and lust that it does. She has a husband and a young daughter who most of the time acted as if they wanted nothing to do with her and still no understanding of why all this happened to her. As a reader, you’re hurt when Kate is hurting and hoping she can find a way to put her life back together given everything she’s learned.

Ryan is a man you equally wants to get down and dirty with while shaking and screaming at him. He’s a man who had his entire world taken away from him when he thought he lost his wife in a plan crash five years before. The only way to make it through the day was to lock all his feelings away. The only problem was, the minute he sees Kate and recognizes her for his dead wife, he unleashes those feelings on her with disastrous results (especially since they weren’t exactly feelings of love that he was cramming down her throat). This would be when you wanted to shake him and scream at him. It was like he couldn’t see past his own feelings to think about how all of this must be for Kate. He just kept taking things out on her, as if she had done all of this on purpose.

Things weren’t easy for Kate and Ryan. When Ryan was finally able to direct his anger and resentment to the right place, he did a complete 180 with Kate and went into protection mode. Now that he had her back, he wasn’t going to let her go. Now he smothered her and kept things from her…for her own good. When that blew up, Ryan was left wondering how he was going to cope if he lost her again..this time because of his own stupid mistakes. They definitely had a mountain of emotional issues to deal with, but it came down to love and letting go of the past.

The path the story took to get to who did this to Kate and why was full of twists and turns. I honestly never even suspected the villain and still couldn’t believe it, even when I read the name three times (just to make sure). It was masterfully played out and left you with that feeling that justice had definitely been served.

Wonderfully written with characters who’s emotional turmoil seemed to jump off the page and grab you.

Occasionally, when you read as much PNR/UF/Fantasy as I do you need a break to “cleanse the palate” so to speak. This was one of those excursions and since it was FREE on Amazon by an author already known for writing skills (she also does a 5 Star PNR/UF series Eternal Guardians) it was an easy choice. The summary made me think this was a light read with a soaring HEA …… wrong again, great authors don’t take the easy way out very often. This turns into a romantic mystery/thriller that borders in places like a SCI-FI murder mystery. Make no mistake, the main thrust of this novel is still the heroine with no memory of her past and the hero millionaire neither of whom are cut from the usual pairings we see in so many paperbacks and their totally messed up relationship (can’t say too much without spoiling things). Let me just say that almost nothing went the way I thought it was going to go from reading the cover info. This was a great book, the way it starts grabs you and then moves along a line and just when you think it is going to go “just the way I thought” …… nope, not gonna happen. The summary above gives you enough information to get you hooked (or it should) and most people that have read this agree this is 4-5 Star reading. Take a break from the usual and grab this book for free in a Kindle format on Amazon and enjoy an exceptional reading experience with a great ending (one of the very few things that came close to what I thought/hoped). I am always amazed by authors that can out-think me and take a novel off into a direction I had not seen without making me wish I had not read the book (I hate authors who use a “shock-jock mentality to be different or unique) This is dang near 5 Star reading for me

UPDATE Later In Feb – OK, it is back to $2.99 now , still a steal of a price for a 5 Star book so I removed the part in my review where I gushed about getting it free LOL
